What inspired you to first join Smart Wires?
I joined Smart Wires in 2023 after several years in the energy industry, focusing on engineering for large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly electrical substations. During my previous role, I became intrigued by SmartValve™ technology and its ability to address multiple grid challenges. What truly caught my attention was its potential to integrate renewable energy into the grid, tackling some of the industry’s most pressing issues. My curiosity led me to explore Smart Wires further, and I was inspired by the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology that aligns with my passion for making a tangible impact made joining the team an easy decision.

Can you share a bit about your role as Project Manager?
As a Project Manager, I oversee projects from start to finish—starting with manufacturing and engineering and continuing through site testing and commissioning. My role involves coordinating cross-functional teams, managing timelines and budgets, and maintaining clear communication with customers. Working with some of the largest utilities and Transmission System Operators across LATAM has been a rewarding experience, enabling me to contribute to the modernization of power systems in multiple countries.

On a daily basis, I focus on aligning key elements—engineering, logistics, operations, and customer needs. Collaborating with different teams has given me a holistic perspective, allowing me to deliver exceptional results while effectively navigating complex challenges.

What aspect of your work are you most passionate about, and why?
Apart from contributing to a more sustainable grid and fostering innovation, I’m deeply passionate about problem-solving. The challenges we face can often be complex, but finding creative solutions and seeing the results implemented in the field is incredibly rewarding. Being involved in all stages of our projects gives me a comprehensive understanding of the technology and enables me to address issues from multiple angles.

I also enjoy collaborating with experts from various disciplines, which enhances my problem-solving capabilities while offering valuable learning opportunities. This combination of tackling challenges, driving innovation, and seeing the tangible impact of our work is what makes my role so fulfilling.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
One of the toughest parts of my job is managing the complexity of projects with tight timelines. I must coordinate internal teams to meet technical and operational goals while staying aligned with customer needs. On top of that, I manage risks and tackle unexpected challenges, which can be tough to predict but are a key part of the role.

I handle these challenges by staying adaptable, keeping communication open with everyone involved, and focusing on solid planning. I’m constantly learning—every project teaches me something new. Plus, I’m lucky to have a great team that’s always there to offer support and guidance, which makes a huge difference when things get tough.

In your opinion, what sets Smart Wires apart from other companies in the industry?
What sets Smart Wires apart is how we approach challenges with a mix of expertise, collaboration, and resilience. We face tough problems head-on, and when things don’t go as planned, we’re quick to adapt and keep moving forward.

Our ability to work well together across different teams and with customers is key. It helps us deliver results efficiently while leveraging the diverse expertise within the company. This collaborative approach allows us to solve problems and achieve our goals, even in more challenging situations.

Outside of your day-to-day work, what climate action inspires you?
One climate action that really inspires me is the push for a circular economy. I admire companies and people who focus on extending the lifecycle of products through recycling and reusing materials. It’s all about reducing waste and minimizing our environmental impact.

But it’s not just on companies; it’s about people being aware of their choices too. Small actions, like cutting down on plastic or supporting sustainable brands, can add up. When more people realize their impact, the bigger the change we’ll see. The circular economy is a key part of building a more sustainable future.
