Smart Wires executives to appear at upcoming energy industry events

June 13, 2024

Smart Wires, a global grid enhancing technology and services provider, will embark on a series of key industry events. These events will showcase the company’s commitment to fostering industry collaboration and solving complex grid issues through its innovative, modular, and swift-to-deploy solutions.

SUMO transmission lines

Smart Wires’ team of power system experts are scheduled to participate in energy conferences and workshops across the United States, promoting the adoption of grid enhancing technologies (GETs) by transmission owners and operators to dynamically control and optimize the use of their existing grids.

  • GET SET Spring Workshop, June 20-21, Atlanta, Ga.: This workshop brings together experts from utilities, regulatory bodies, and research to eliminate barriers to deploying GETs. Joaquin Peirano (General Manager, Americas) will share insights on how advanced power flow control (APFC) technology can quickly solve bottlenecks and grid issues to create extra capacity.
  • GridTECH CONNECT Forum, June 24-26, Newport Beach, Calif.: This event offers electric utilities, grid operators, project developers, policymakers, and advocates an opportunity to collaborate to advance interconnection procedures and policies in California. Peirano will speak on a June 25 panel titled “Alternative Technologies for Grid Planning and Operations,” which will explore implementing power flow controlling devices, topology optimization, and using near real-time data to predictively rerate lines.
  • Transmission & Interconnection Summit, June 25-27, Arlington, Va.: This summit will provide the most up-to-date and detailed analysis of new regulatory dynamics in the U.S. as they impact the entire power sector. Ted Bloch-Rubin (Director of Business Development – Americas) will speak on a June 27 panel titled, “Getting the Most Out of the Existing Grid – Will FERC Order Draft 1920 Increase the Role of Alternative Transmission Technologies and Grid-Enhancing Technologies?” He will also moderate the session, “Dealing with the Impacts of Data Center and Large Flexible Load Growth on Transmission.”

These events come on the heels of Bloch-Rubin’s recent participation in the White House Summit on the new Federal-State Modern Grid Deployment Initiative. Speaking at the summit about Smart Wires’ APFC technology, SmartValve™, he remarked, “Without strategically placed SmartValves dynamically directing flow when we install the sorely needed new and bigger wires or receive critical real-time capacity data, there’s no guarantee that electricity will flow toward these circuits and maximize their use.”
